Jell Woolacott-Radford – Life Membership

Life Membership Conferred 2025

Jell has been a cornerstone of Melbourne Softball since joining the association in 2001. Her softball journey began in primary school and continued at Sunbury before she found her home at Fawkner Park, initially playing for the Bears and then progressing to the Melbourne Junior Development Team Titans in the Open Women's competition, where she competed for many seasons.

After a substantial break from the sport, Jell returned to Fawkner Park in 2013 as a playing coach with Melbourne University Softball Club (MUSC). Her leadership qualities were quickly recognised, and she was appointed Head Coach of MUSC in 2015, a position she continues to hold with distinction.

Jell's contributions extend far beyond her club responsibilities. She has served as President of Melbourne Softball Association since 2015, providing strategic leadership during a period of significant growth and development. In her early years as president, she implemented a revised Junior Development Program, strengthening the pathway for emerging players. Her coaching expertise has also been recognised at intervarsity level, where she coached a Melbourne University team at the Gold Coast championships in 2017.

As a player and coach, Jell's achievements span over two decades. She was instrumental in Melbourne Softball's success at numerous State Championships, contributing to victories in 2001 and 2002 Under 16 competitions, multiple Under 19 championships from 2002 to 2004, and the Under 14 championship in 2004. Her impact continued in Open competition, where she helped secure State Championships in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2008. After her return to active competition, she played a crucial role in the 2021 Open State Championship as a playing coach and contributed as a player to the team's victory in 2022, with 2022 being the only year she participated solely as a player rather than as a coach. She has served as co-coach for Melbourne's Open Championship campaigns in all other years. Between 2016 and 2019, she also served as co-coach for Melbourne Softball's Memorial Shield campaigns.

Jell's commitment to continuous improvement is evident through her coaching accreditation journey, achieving Level 2 Coaching Accreditation in 2019, Level 1 Scoring Accreditation in 2022, and most recently, Level 3 Coaching Accreditation in 2024. Her dedication to softball development was formally recognised in 2018 when she received the Duyvestyn Service Award for her outstanding service to softball at Fawkner Park, and in 2021 when she was honoured with Softball Victoria's Merle Short Service Award.

Through her multifaceted roles as player, coach, administrator, and mentor, Jell has demonstrated unwavering commitment to Melbourne Softball and the broader softball community. Her leadership continues to inspire the next generation of players and coaches at Fawkner Park.
