Community Events & Engagement

Community Events and Outreach

The Melbourne Softball Association is deeply committed to supporting both our members and the broader Melbourne community through meaningful events throughout the year.

Special Olympics Support (March)

Each March, our members volunteer to provide games and training support for Special Olympics athletes preparing for their National competitions. This partnership exemplifies our association's community spirit and demonstrates our commitment to making softball accessible to all. The experience is invaluable for the athletes, their families, and supporters, while strengthening the bonds within our softball community.

Pink Sports Day (May)

Every May, Fawkner Park transforms into a sea of pink as we rally together to raise funds for Breast Cancer Network Australia. This annual event serves a dual purpose—supporting vital cancer research while providing our softball family with an opportunity to honor loved ones we've lost and show solidarity with those currently fighting their battles.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Recognition

Throughout the year, the MSA proudly acknowledges and celebrates Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities through various initiatives. During our Metro League season, we raise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags at Fawkner Park to mark significant cultural dates, demonstrating our respect and commitment to reconciliation.

National Sorry Day (May 26)

We observe this important day of acknowledgment, which recognizes the lasting impact of forced removal policies on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families. National Sorry Day offers all Australians an opportunity to support healing for the Stolen Generations, their families, and communities.

National Reconciliation Week (May 27 - June 3)

During this week, we focus on bringing all Australians together to celebrate our shared values while working to bridge understanding. The dates honor two pivotal moments in reconciliation history—the successful 1967 referendum and the High Court's Mabo decision.

Our highlight during this week is a special social slow pitch game featuring both Indigenous community members and MSA players. We're honored that traditional owners have given our event the name Womin-Djerring.

NAIDOC Week (July)

We celebrate the rich history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples through our Indigenous Round, held on the first Sunday in July as part of our season fixtures.

Diamond Classic Challenge - Amaru Day (July)

This highly competitive showcase brings together the previous season's A Division premiers against an A Division All Star team. The event honors the memory of Layne Amaru, a beloved former member of our association, ensuring his contribution to our community continues to be celebrated.

Australian Corporate Games (Mid-November)

Fawkner Park becomes the central hub for all softball competition during the Australian Corporate Games. Our association takes pride in managing the complete administration of this tournament, showcasing our facilities and organizational expertise to corporate teams from across Australia.

Annual Reunion Luncheon

Since 2011, we've hosted this special gathering for former players, officials, and administrators who have been part of the Fawkner Park softball story. This cherished annual tradition allows old friends to reconnect and share memories of their softball experiences.

The generosity of attendees continues to enrich our association, with many contributing precious memorabilia that adds to our growing collection of softball history. These items help preserve the stories and achievements that make our community so special.
