Vale Judy Joy Davies AOR: Melbourne Softball acknowledges the recent passing of Judy Joy Davies.
Judy Joy ‘covered local and international sport’ included a strong leaning towards females in sport. She was a staunch supporter of softball for over two decades. Judy Joy regularly visited Fawkner Park and the Domain to gather newsworthy topics and catch up with her softball friends. Softball was fortunate enough to have regular. sometimes weekly articles in the Herald Sun and it’s precursor newspapers, and not just a few lines in one column. You will find in our archives articles with photographs that were often a quarter page in size. Ah those were the days! SOFTBALL in a bold heading and signed off by Judy Joy Davies.
Rest in peace Judy Joy. Sincere condolences to her family and friends.

Completely slipped my mind that I hadn’t done a round up of Prelim final day, my brain is heading into summer holiday mode already!
3 Preliminary finals were on in the park last Sunday, and while the final score blew out on a couple of the games they were fairly close for most of the 7 innings played.
The A grade final saw Wingers Red taking on Eastern Raiders with Wingers eventually running out easy winners 20-11. It was a close tussle there for several innings but some big hitting saw Wingers take a lead and hold out the Raiders and grab themselves a shot at Panthers next week.
In A Reserve the Red Devils were attempting to redeem themselves for last weeks loss and to give themselves another shot at the Warriors in the grand final. They outplayed an under-performing Melb Uni Angels 19 runs to 13.
With two Melbourne Uni teams in B grade it was up to Monash to ensure they didn’t have a monopoly on the trophy. Smart batting and solid pitching by the Monash team saw them take the game 15 -8.
Join us this Sunday for our Grand Final Day – it promises to be a lovely day weather wise, and what better way to spend a sunny afternoon than in the park watching a talented bunch of women slog it out on the softball diamond.

Having one or two issues getting the finals schedule to display on our external site, so please bare with us as we iron out a few wrinkles with tech support. In the meantime you can find the upcoming finals fixture below.
Early start in the park for our Future Growth Forum where members came together to share ideas on how we can improve the competition at Fawkner Park and how to increase participation. The executive would like to thank all those that came down and for all the great ideas that were floated during the course of the morning. Some we already had in the pipeline and are currently moving towards implementing while some were completely new. It was encouraging to see members engaging and having the desire to see us grow and prosper.
On the diamond we had the last round to complete, with the outcome of several games determining who ended up in which division come finals time.
This Sunday sees the semi finals kick off and we wish all the very best of luck to those playing this week.
